“I want to show with this book that man’s attitude toward the bear is very important. I only did this interviewing work to help the bear, a mythical animal. I met two legendary characters, Michael Allen in British Columbia, Canada, and Lynn Rogers in Minnesota, USA ; they are contested, sometimes misunderstood by most people because they approach bears at very close range. I shared great moments with them.”

Each book is numbered (1000 copies) and for one book sold, 1 USD is given to Lynn Rogers for the creation of a research center (American Bear Center).

“A considerable number of people walk in bear country and our attitude will direct the bear’s future. We will need to overcome our fear of the unknown. We can do this by informing people about bears’ honesty ; this is the purpose of my life.”
Lynn Rogers

Paper in the magazine “Terre Sauvage”

N°162 June, 2001
written by Isabelle Boyaval
“Salmons come back, bears in ambush !”

“... From the beginning of August to mid-October, sometimes a little later, the bear doesn’t think of anything but fish, which runs up the creeks of North America. He lives for it and thanks to it. I finally discover the creek. A female is posted in the middle of the current, her two cubs waiting about 10 meters away. They literally gorge themselves with fish. I manage to climb a tree and stay there for hours, watching them fish, with a feeling of extreme power oozing from them...”

This book is a call for Nature and particularly for the grizzly bear preservation, the knowledge and the biology of the animal, the problems he encounters. This is also a guide in which the impassionate, the experienced naturalist will find directions, hiking trails maps, useful addresses to travel across the Rockies of North America in the purest tradition of respect for Nature. We wanted to edit a limited number of copies so that it could be destined only to the experienced impassionate, the true defender of bears and nature. In that way, we do not want to develop eco-tourism, which should always be regulated. This book works for this purpose.

« Isabelle and Alain Boyaval are some of those women and men for whom the respect of life and admiration for nature are essential. On the tracks of the twentieth century great naturalists who devoted their lives to apes, gorillas, tigers or others species, they decided to dedicate the most of their time to the study and the protection of bear. »

This book follows the path of the first tome, with more engagement.
Meetings with organizations and actors of the protection allow to understand, act and fight for bear habitat conservation.
The impassionate will find lots of information and details for traveling in Alberta, Northwest Territories, Yukon and British Columbia.
It is invaluable to have field experience and information to travel across western Canada.

“Isabelle Boyaval writes in the field, on the spot, to share her observations and feelings of the moment. Trough her descriptions, the reader is immediately transported by the wealth of words in the big spaces of the Canadian North. From blueberry observation to that of a grizzly female with two cubs, Isabelle knows how to elevate the mind in this wilderness rich with beauty and feelings. She can also denunciate when needed the negative human impact on the always-fragile environment.

The high quality illustrations and photographs by Alain are the product of a lot of research and long hours of approach.

Isabelle and Alain Boyaval admirably complete themselves in this faithful environment protection. Their desire to act for its conservation as well as for animal protection, particularly bears, couldn’t be better expressed otherwise than in this book.”

“Vivre ou survivre”
A film by Isabelle and Alain Boyaval

For thousands of years, bears and humans lived on the same ranges. With the exception of North America, bears suffer from this proximity. This film relates our study for more than 5 years of American black and grizzly bears in the wilderness. Our duty was to show and denunciate the barbaric practices made on bears around the world (Viet-Nam, India) and that is very often ignored.
We will always be there to fight and will stay faithful to our ethic.
